Tropico 4 pollution12/30/2023 Never build your tourist facilities downwind of your power plant or cannery! Likewise, if you want the little people more content with their housing, keep their homes out of the path of the pollution. El Presidente, the conclusion you have doubtless reached is that you should build your industries downwind of your palace, if nothing else. Pollution extends in a cone shape from a building in the direction the wind is blowing. One of the first things you should always do before building is to zoom out while the game is on slow speed and watch the clouds roll past.Wind systems in Tropico are not complex-this is the way the wind blows all the time. To manage pollution requires some planning prior to construction. It will, though, become a larger and larger concern of your population. Depending upon the victory conditions you selected, it may not be a large concern. If you aren't careful, your island could quickly become a stink pit. Of course, it is heavy industry and power plants that generate the largest amount of pollution. Individually, their pollution scores are low but their numbers add up. Farms, construction offices, and teamster's offices all produce pollution. Roadways and other heavy-traffic areas also become polluted over time. You can prevent people pollution by passing the Anti-Littering Ordinance edict.Įven if you have no heavy industry, Tropico will have building pollution. The tornadoes are just an annoyance of having to rebuild what was destroyed, that's pretty much it really.Pollution comes from two sources: people and buildings. That's fine and all, I believe that I can turn off these disasters so I'm not so concerned about it, I'll just start up a new island and play with events turned off I suppose as it's just too annoying to get 2 tornadoes by 1957 even though financially it doesn't mean a hill of beans as one gold mine and one jewelery factory keeps me rolling in money, much more than I can even spend before the next ship comes to take away our jewelery and bring me more money. So, I think there is a bit of randomness thrown in here as I should not be getting punished for having one gold mine and one jewelery factory this early into the game. When I used to use oil only I never experienced any tornadoes.Īll my factions are listed between 75 and 100% as it's so early in the game nobody hates El Presidente yet. I solely rely on mining this early in the game, usually I start out with gold mining and jewelry, if there is no gold on the island then I rely totally on oil. My pollution seemed fine, I have one garbage dump. If that is raping the land then I'm not sure what else to do really. I've got one industry, gold mining and jewelery. If what Simon says is true then it's a might bit unbalanced. It's the environment punishing you for not taking the environment seriously enough and it's part of the game! Not having enough garbage dumps that cover your city is one of the main causes. So just to reiterate the natural disasters are *not* random. Have you enacted certain environmental edicts? Do you have enough parks and green space in your city? Try looking at the the environmental faction's demands and implement some of those. What's your pollution like? Do you have enough garbage dumps that service your city (including outlying farms)? Have you upgraded industry to be less polluting? Do you have dirty polluting coal-fired power plants? Do you rely too heavily on mining? Do you rely too heavily on forestry (hint build more horticulture stations set to reforestation if you are). It's a clever part of the scripting of the game! You will have to look at what environmentally damaging activities you have and think about implementing a more environmentally sustainable economy or policies to counter it. They're nature’s way of "fighting back"! Also, you may notice that they target or destroy certain polluting or environmentally damaging activities.Īs you noticed they are *not* random. Tornados and other natural disasters signify that you have some environmental problems on your island that need addressing.
